Easy Morning Green Juice

For a green juice to be a long-term replacement for morning coffee it must be two things, quick and delicious.  This has been my go-to recipe for many years. It’s three basic ingredients with an optional fourth and the whole process takes five to ten minutes.

Like everyone new to juicing, when I first started, I threw everything and the kitchen sink in.  That’s not sustainable long-term. At some point life happened and I lost the daily habit of juicing.  Fast forward a couple years and it took a toll on my health. So, I came back to juicing and fine-tuned the process so I could stumble out of bed and have a refreshing juice with little effort and time.

The health benefits of consuming your daily dose of fruits and vegetables are bountiful. Here are two benefits to help feature Green Juice as the ultimate morning beverage.

Boundless Energy

The biggest draw to juicing for me is always the energy and operating at peak performance.

While coffee would give me that jolt of energy to get moving in the morning, it also sent me crashing when the caffeine wore off. Then I’d play this vicious game of needing coffee during the day to keep on going. Sound familiar?

With my green juice I start my day off knowing I’ve already absorbed a healthy dose of natural vitamins and minerals.  I feel vibrant and my energy level is steadfast with no awful crashes. Incorporating a salad or raw veggies in my day at this point is great but I don’t worry too much if it doesn’t happen.  I’ve already consumed most of the days required servings of fruits and veggies.

Liquid Gold (or Green)

Fruits and vegetables are the most alkaline of foods due to their mineral content whereas coffee, meats, dairy, alcohol and processed foods are acidic. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 with 7 being neutral.  A healthy pH is slightly alkaline at 7.4. You can walk confidently knowing your morning green juice is helping support a healthy alkaline state.

“Green juices are pure liquid alkaline nutrition that is absorbed almost instantly. Consistent consumption of green juices and a healthy alkaline diet will help to bring the body back in balance and create a body where disease cannot survive, but you can thrive!” – Hippocrates Health Institute

Let’s get into it.

For the sake of morning efficiency, I suggest investing in a juicer if you don’t already have one. In our home, we’ve been using the Breville Juice Fountain Plus for several years and love it. It’s easy to use and easy to clean.

Line the pulp container with any small plastic bag for easy clean up.

Its preferable to use all organic produce, especially with this recipe since two of the three main ingredients are on the 2019 Dirty Dozen List.

The optional fourth ingredient is yours to decide or you can ignore it.  I tend to choose from the following:

  • ginger
  • fresh turmeric
  • some sprouts
  • handful of spinach
  • 2 stalks kale
  • ½ a lemon

Serving Size: 2 (approx. 30oz)

Time:  5 to 10 minutes from start to clean up

2 Green Apples (yields approx. 8 ox)

1 Bunch Celery (yields approx. 15oz)

1 Cucumber (yields approx. 8 ox)

Rinse produce and lay it on a paper towel. With the Breville Juicer you can run all the produce whole, but I typically cut the apples in half. Juice and pour on ice. Enjoy immediately or store in refrigerator for up to 24 hours.
